PressTV - The United States’ biggest 'allies' are funding ISIL

PressTV - The United States’ biggest 'allies' are funding ISIL:

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Turkey and Qatar that is.

So, the countries that were abusive occupation forces a few centuries ago (or les), and who have no sense of diversity. The absurd part of this is when these self-righteous countries berate Lebanon. Lebanon is diverse and wants to be, something that these countries could benefit from imitating.

In Lebanon one day? Singapore's surreal Supertree Grove and Cloud Forest

In Lebanon, $30 billions went unaccounted for, and added to our national debt. Here's the fabulous futuristic urban greenscape we could have built with a portion of that:

I hope Singapore will be a role model to Beirut one day!

What Drives Success? or for that matter what drives sucess in rewarding our parents

in this article on What Drives Success?  (NYTimes), the author says :"It’s just much harder when you have to do it on your own, when you can’t draw on the cultural resources of a broader community, when you don’t have role models or peer pressure on your side."

This is true for wanting to do well in school and career, but also true for fulfilling our promise to our parents when we migrate away from them. This is why we need to build a culture of finanicing parents who live abroad, visitng them often and reuniting with them before it's too late.

Btw Lebanese expats count among those who have a recipe for success, in this NYT article.

African Babies Don't Cry but Western ones do

My baby doesn't cry much, and this thanks to my attachment parenting style, the way asians, africans and latin americans have parented for centuries, and the west started to look into this. African babies dont cry, but western babies do. This is according to Dr. Claire Niala in Why African Babies Don't Cry: An African Perspective, and Dr. Karp in Cultures Without Colic.

Some parents in the west took on attachment parenting, and I sympathize with them. But then there are those who preach strict, rulish parenting where the norm is for babies to cry. I actually raised eyebrows: a baby who doesn't cry, I must be overprotecting him!  Dr. Karp had another explanation in Cultures Without Colic that cultures where baby cry much less then in the west, babies are constantly held, they get immediate response when upset, and very frequent breastfeeding. Closeness is not the same as stifling a child, and distance is not the same as trust!

African parenting advocates closeness, bonding, doting on the baby, flexibility, accomodating the child, taking the baby to work. The result is a happy baby, full night sleep, and a relaxed mom. The west (not counting attachment parents) preaches distance, discipline, personal space, cribs and schedules, daycare. The result is a cranky baby and a tired, sleep deprived mom. The worst of all is that the west ignores the methods used by all other cultures and preaches that a cold distance between mom and child is the only way for a mom to return to her "productive life". Dr. Niala is a typical Kenyan mum who proved the west wrong. She moved her practice from England to Kenya. There she takes her baby and nanny to her practice with her. The west should not take its unnecessarily rulish parenting methods for absolute truth.

The guilt that moms feel throughout the workday, for being away from baby inspired some westerners to try alternative work models, like cubes and crayons and where there is palce for children at work. I have lost enough in my life because I was swayed by the west. I will parent, and work my way, the doting way.  I lost part of my soul when I let living in the west distract me from my mom. Now a mom myself, I have no intention of assimilating into the west. Attachment parents in the west will understand. All parents in Africa, Asia and Latin America already get it.

Teleferico instead of subways in Sounth America. How about in Lebanon

We have a wonderfully hilly country in Lebanon, a shabby infrastructure and no real public transport. It sounds like aerial public transport, the teleferic, makes perfect sense, and turns commutes into a scenic relaxing trips.

solar powered greenhouses in Lebanon?

Australia's Sundrop Farms uses solar power to desalinize salt water, cool greenhouses and water crops in them. So, could we do this on the Lebanese sea shore? Or maybe buy loads of desert land from neighboring countires and grow / build Lebanon 2, Lebanon 3...!

Lebanon has an athlete in the winter olympics, and a national charter, so can you stop assuming we're feuding bigots?!

Lebanon has an olympian in the winter games, Jackie Chamoun. She's an olympian with insight on how to advancing skiing in Lebanon. She also posed for a racy ski calendar. Politicians criticized her, BUT the Lebanese public, blogosphere, and industry (wine and beer makers included) supported Jacky in a big outcry, with the hashtag #stripforjackie. The western media noticed her unlike countless other succesful women athletes from Lebanon.

So there you have it, Lebanon is not limited to 1980's cliches still used in the news today, or to bombs placed by Saudi mercenaries. By the same token the US would be made of high school shootings, if the shootings were by foreign mercenaries implanted to weaken the US. Unfortunately for the US those are totaaly amercian.

The western media has covered for Saudi-backed mercenaries in the middle east, claiming the fights are sectaian when these fundamentalists are simply trying to re-colonize the arabic world. The Lebanese answer to these is a National Charter to better resist foreign manipulation into violence. This charter is reminiscent of the memorandum of understanding with Hezbollah, completely ignored by the west, in which they agree to never hold arms against thei own country. Here are comments on the recent National Charter, Lebanon's constructive thinking in the face of foreign terrorism. Nobody disagrees with the [charter], says one Lebanese paper. How will that fair in the face of the prejudice that we're feuding bigots?
