Pine trees are infested by a devastating moth, what can be done!
https://newsroomnomad.com/fatal-disease-threatens-lebanons-historic-parasol-pines/
Here is what can be done:
According to a scientific study on Birds as predators of the pine processionary moth (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae), posted at https://www.researchgate.net/publication/232409234_Birds_as_predators_of_the_pine_processionary_moth_Lepidoptera_Notodontidae :
"At least seven bird species can be considered as regular predators of the pine processionary moth: four large migrant specialists (great spotted cuckoo Clamator glandarius, common cuckoo Cuculus canorus, European night jar Caprimulgus europaeus and Eurasian hoopoe Upupa epops) and three small sedentary generalists(great tit Parus major, crested tit Lophophanes cristatus and coal tit Periparus ater). "
These birds could be fenced in around the trees, using a mesh wall (to protect them from hunters as well), in order for them to eat the caterpillar infesting the pine trees.
